Recreation Ambassador Program – Weekend Report 6/14 & 6/15
Weekend Summary: The second weekend of the Recreation Ambassador program was less busy with the cooler temperatures this week. 6 total volunteers from the Marlin Handbell Ringers and 2 Chamber employees staffed four local river put-ins and take-outs to gather data and assist recreators. Volunteers reported seeing more families this weekend, and a higher proportion of tubers as the river level drops.
Volunteer Impact:
- Recreator Interactions: 437
- Surveys Conducted: 16
- Trash Removed: Five 30-gallon bags
Survey Highlights (16 respondents):
Visitor Origin:
- 6 from the Wenatchee Valley
- 9 from the Seattle Metro area
- 1 from Cle Elum
Recreation Type:
- Medium water levels
- 50/50 tubers and paddleboarders/kayakers
- Fewer rafts this week
Conditions Reported:
- All 10 out of town residents said the beaches were clean and there were no issues with facilities
- 2 Local respondents complained of loud music from tubers and some trash
- 1 Local respondent complained of trash from fishermen (lures and fishing line)
Post-Float Plans:
- Most locals planned to head home, though two were going to stop at Icicle Brewing Company before heading home
- Most out-of-town visitors planned to visit a restaurant after their float, and 2 planned to go shopping in town
Transportation & Parking
- The Leavenworth Public Boat Launch on E. Leavenworth Road was the busiest location with around 40 vehicles parked at 1pm on Saturday
- Half of the local respondents have heard about the City’s free river shuttle, one local recommended that the shuttle should run on weekdays
- None of the out-of-town visitors were aware of the shuttle, and 2 recommended that it start earlier in the year
- Most brought two vehicles, one rented a bike in town
We are still looking for non-profits to volunteer for the Weekends of June 21/22, August 2/3. And August 23/24. Please Email Matt @ Recreation@leavenworth.org or apply at Leavenworthchamber.org.
