Recreation Ambassador Program Summary:
As we begin to pack away our tents and “recreation information” signs for the season, we would like to thank the 13 non-profit organizations that participated in the Recreation Ambassador Program this year. The passion, expertise and local knowledge they bring to the program is crucial in encouraging a positive and safe recreational experience for visitors. These groups are truly the foundation of our community and carry on the long legacy of service in the Leavenworth area. This year was especially challenging in recreation due to the drastic cuts in funding for the Federal Agencies that manage our natural resources. There were fewer Forest Service and Fish and Wildlife staff available to perform basic maintenance and cleaning tasks, but our volunteers went above and beyond to fill the gaps and protect our trails and waterways. One Volunteer, Don Morse took it upon himself to clean the Stuart Lake TH restroom. Volunteers also stocked over 200 rolls of toilet paper at trailhead restrooms and handed out over 300 WAG bags to alleviate strain on overfull backcountry toilets.
The following organizations volunteered with us this year:
- Leavenworth Lions Club
- Canyon Bloom Petals for Patients
- Marlin Handbell Ringers
- Cascade Medical Foundation
- Leavenworth Rotary
- Upper Valley Historical Society
- Upper Valley Young Life
- Royal Bavarians
- Cascade Education Foundation
- Washington State Autumn Leaf Festival Association
- Pinnacles Prep Charter School
- Icicle Valley Trout Unlimited
- Chelan County Mountain Rescue
